Video games are getting noisy. This is new Report It reveals a huge global demand for games, with more than half of the world’s population – 52% – now playing games and the majority – 77% – playing multiplayer games. Additional trends predicted sustainable growth for gaming, such as the recently released $678.80 Metaverse Market. weather forecast and separate Finding The global web 3.0 market is expected to reach $81 billion by 2030.
With the holidays around the corner when gaming solutions are gifted and widely played, I reached out to CEO of Game Technology Max Budkidkin, co-founder and CEO of hostingClick here to get some ideas and tips for one particularly thriving trend: gaming server hosting. While applicable to a range of games, one of the games that openly leads (and certainly benefits from) the private game server category is Minecraft, which is currently The number 1 game in the world The best seller in the industry to date.
MK: First, what is the difference between a game server hosted by a company like yours and other types of servers?
MP: Rather than doing the typical web hosting of website pages and other internet-based content, we specialize in game servers, specifically. Game servers have their own technology and security considerations, so using a game-specific hosting company can greatly facilitate and speed up the consumer experience while protecting user-tailored content. Furthermore, our support team consists of gamers who are familiar with the games we host and trained to handle the challenges that can arise with hosting a game server. This, notably, is something you won’t be able to get at a typical hosting company.
MK: More and more gamers are looking to get their own game server. In short, what do you think is the best reason to do this?
deputy: Since so much of the world’s population now plays video games, and nearly 80% of those people play them online with others, owning a game server is best for those gamers who want to play remotely with friends and family, or even join random servers from Play with strangers and finally become friends. Starting your own game server is a great way to build your own little community – one that’s also private and completely user controlled.
MK: Amidst the privacy and closed-loop benefits of owning your own game server, why would someone want to use a third party server hosting company?
deputy: While it is possible to host a server at home on your computer, you will then have to worry about keeping your computer on 24/7. Not only do energy cost implications can get expensive, but many ISPs are starting to limit the amount of bandwidth their customers can use per month and charge more for breaching usage standards. Then there are technical considerations, such as having to go into your router settings to change network configurations that put you at risk of completely disconnecting from home. With a third-party server hosted, players don’t have to worry about any of that and can just enjoy a turnkey private community experience within seconds, allowing them to start playing almost immediately. Going back to the control side, you can then control who joins games that are hosted on the server.
MK: Any benefits of private hosting for the gaming experience itself?deputy: definitely. For one, you or others you allow can install plugins or mod packs, which are like different pieces of software created by community members that completely changed the game they were made for. So, instead of people getting bored of playing plain old Minecraft, you can allow these different features that completely change the game and make it completely different from the original to be installed on your server. This keeps things fresh, fun and challenging.
When you have your own server with a reputable hosting company, you can have complete peace of mind and control over everything. You can add and remove items from games, choose who joins what, set your own narrative and more. In general, you can make your game worlds the way you want them to be. With Minecraft, especially where worlds are procedurally generated, you can build a world with friends and family that can last for many years. It’s a great way to build something together as a community with people you enjoy.
MK: How about making game server hosting not only fun and successful, but also secure?
deputy: Yes, third-party servers are best placed in professional data centers that have multiple layers of physical, on-site, and software-based security. Even entry to these facilities usually requires an ID check and even fingerprints, and phones and cameras are usually not allowed into the data center. Then there are layers of cyber security protocols in place. It is important to do due diligence on the hosting provider to ensure that it is reputable, and that the management is accessible and experienced in the field. Unfortunately, in this area I’ve seen many businesses come and go that are sometimes run by very young and inexperienced kids with no real business acumen. Of course, it is necessary to ensure that your data on the server is safe, because you not only give these companies abundant personal and financial information, but also your server data. Sadly, I’ve seen companies that just shut down with gamers losing all their data and losing their game worlds. For those who have worked with their friends or family for a long time building their world together and then suddenly lost everything, this is very upsetting.
MK: On that note, how about customer service. I understand that you feel that the game server hosting industry in general is lacking in customer service standards. Can you explain that a little bit?
deputy: Yes, before starting this company I already had my own Minecraft server hosted by a company and had many issues with customer service. Therefore, I personally understand the consumer mentality and historical service shortcomings. Now as the owner and operator of my own game server company, we go above and beyond to satisfy our users. This includes bundling features for which other game server hosting providers charge an additional fee. Instead, we offer packages that bring everything together to make things easier and more cost-effective. We have 24/7 support, and our customers get a response to their support tickets in an average of 15 minutes – day or night, no matter what. Our support team never tells the customer “we don’t know” about an issue…we either escalate it, look it up or otherwise figure it out as quickly as possible so that we don’t leave any issue unresolved for too long.
Of course, keeping data safe and secure is extremely important, so back up all our servers every day. So, if you install a plug-in or mod, corrupt the configuration file, or if someone accidentally or maliciously deletes part or all of the world, the server owner can restore up to seven days of backups and save a lot of hardship and worry. We are also the only server company that caches files from all canceled servers for about 2 years. So, a customer who used to have a server with us can come back entirely after a couple of years, and literally pick up where they left off, which can be nostalgic and exciting – especially if the old group of friends is back together and wants to restart their server.
In games, and especially in relation to Minecraft, the community aspect is huge. In truth, Minecraft – and certainly Max’s server hosting company – wouldn’t be where it is today without the shared aspect of the experience. This Max has taken this into consideration, which has led his company to give back to the community at large and get involved in many charitable causes such as Educating the playersA charity that empowers hospitalized families through play.
Based on the ever-growing stats, it’s clear that today’s gamers crave connectivity more than ever before. Having achieved critical group standards, consumers can now level up their dedicated server hosting game and calm their urge to group sharing with ease, speed, security, and cost-effectiveness. It’s a win all around.
